1. The family DVD player has been out of date and it doesn’t support the file codec.
2. Poor disc compatibility.
3. Incorrect format of the disc.
4. Improper parameter settings before the burning.

Thus, you may change for a new DVD player or a new disc with better compatibility. While, how to set the format and the parameters correctly is still a question. This guide is intended to help you play DVD smoothly in Sony DVP-SR200P/B DVD Player with DVD maker software. However, this method is also suitable for other family DVD players.

Step1. Get the details of Sony DVP-SR200P/B DVD Player

Sony DVP SR200P/B DVD Player is a single-disc, budget DVD player.

Step3. Set the parameters

Click “Settings” at the right panel; “Advanced” settings are also available. You can also add menus to your disc by clicking “DVD Menu”. Dozens of menu templates are provided.

Tip: NTSC standard is usually used in USA, Japan, Canada, Mexico etc, while PAL is used in China (including HongKong area), Middle East and Europe etc.

Step4. Start burning videos

Make sure you have inserted DVD disc before burning. Choose the videos you wish to convert/burn, and click “Burn” button to start the video conversion and burning. When the video conversion and DVD menu creation are completed, it pops up a dialog and starts burning the generated video files to disc.

Step5. Insert the burnt DVD discs to DVD Player

When the DVD discs have been burnt, it’s time for family TV enjoyment. Insert the burnt DVD discs and enjoy watching.

Tip: Please adjust TV output mode if black area appears in TV.

Step1. Get the detailed information of the car DVD player

The most important thing is to be aware of the supported format of the car DVD player. Different car DVD players support different audio& video formats.

The BV9992 plays back your DVDs/SDVDs, SVCDs/VCDs, CDs, CD-R/Ws, and WMA/MP4/MP3 files. The BV9992 features a USB port and SD Card jack, so you can instantly switch out USB thumb drives or SD cards with a fresh batch of MP3 tunes/podcasts/etc.

Tip: For audio plays, you just need to download the WMA or MP3 files and save them in your SD card or MP3 player device, then connect the device to the car DVD player. For video plays, you need to convert and burn them to DVD discs.

Step2. Download the DVD burner software

Step3. Set the burning parameters

1. Click “Add Files” button to add the videos you want to burn. Choose “Target disc size” in the “Settings” option. There are two options: “DVD-5 (4.7G)” and “DVD-9 (8.5G)”. You can make more advanced settings with “Advanced” option.

Tip: D5 is a single layered DVD disc with nearly 5 GB capacity while D9 is a double layered DVD disc with nearly 9 GB capacity.

2.  Click “DVD Menu” option to add movie menus. Dozens of inbuilt menu templates are available in the program. However, you can DIY movie menu too; for instance, you can change the background image to your wedding pictures or baby photos etc. You can refer to the movie menu DIY guides.

Step4. Trim the movies if needed

Tired of the advertisement of the movies? You can trim the movies before burning. Just choose the movie and then click “Edit-> Trim…”. Drag the left triangle to a position you want it be the start of the converted video and the right triangle to a position you want it be the end of the converted video.

Step5. Burn movies to DVD discs

Click “Burn” button in the toolbar. If you forget to insert a DVD disc to your PC, the burnt files will be saved in the folder where the program is installed. The folder will open automatically after the burning.

Tip: Three types of files are included in the VIDOE_TS folder: .IFO (information files), .VOB (video data files), .BUP (backups for IFO files).

Step6. Insert the burnt DVD discs to the Boss BV9992 In-Dash 7

Copy the burnt DVD folder to your DVD disc. Now, enjoy blockbusters with this car DVD player. This method is also suitable for other car DVD players.

Tip: For your safety, you’d better park your car if you want to watch movies.

Restart the program, and click “Add Files” to add the video files. Click the drop down arrow of the templates and select “Happy Family”:

If the new added menu templates can’t be found in this drop down menu, there may be some problem with the menu name in the template.xml.

The menu name should be consistent with the folder name. After all changes have been done, you need to restart the program.

Besides, button texts can be added to the video buttons. The text can be the video name or any name that can be defined. Just click the video you want to add texts. Then choose “Font” and “Button text” to set the text font and texts.

Some useful tips you may need during the DIY:
1. Unsatisfied with the menu title, including text, text size, display position, color etc.
In this case, you can make some changes to the menu title properties:

For instance, you may change the text from “My DVD” to “Family Love”, size to “55”, the coordinate “x” value to “350”.

2. The bad arrangement of video buttons
In this case, users just need to change the X values. For instance, the menu has four video buttons, two at each line. The third and fourth buttons are not aligned with the first and second buttons, and then users need to change the X values (x0—x3) of the first and second video button properties.

For instance, you may change the first button X properties value to “261”, “261”, ”266”, ”261” and the second button properties value to “491”, “491”, “496”, “491” to be consistent with the third and fourth button X properties respectively.

Note: The values of the “w1” and “h1” should be the same with the width and height of “video.png”.

3. The new added menu template can’t be found in the program.
For this issue, Part Three Tutorial (“Add DIY Movie Menu to the Program”) will help you out.

When you have learnt how to DIY the template.xml, then you have at least half done. In the next tutorial, you will learn how to add the DIY menu to the program.

Part I: Preparation for Movie Menu DIY

Now, let’s switch to the DIY process. We use Sothink Free DVD Creator to DIY movie menu.

It is necessary to introduce the movie menu components (Take the “Violet Frame” as an example)

Almost all of the components can be DIY in this movie menu, including background image, title, background audio, video button (background, button border, highlight, text), page button (background, highlight) and xml file. However, you can get your own template through changing part of the existing resources, such as background image, audio, button text etc. The resources needed to be prepared are shown as follows:

Note: All the resources name should be consistent with the existing resources (For instance, the designed background image can only be called “background.jpg”, the button border should be called “video.png” etc.)

Photoshop is recommended to design the background images, button border and background of page buttons. The page button highlight can be made with Sothink SWF Quiker and the output should be WMF format. We recommend using the same color when you make the highlight of the page buttons. All of the resources should be placed in the same folder (For example, “Happy Family”). And this folder should be put in the directory “…SourceTec\Sothink Movie DVD Maker\Templates”. For instance, “D:\Program Files\SourceTec\Sothink Movie DVD Maker\Templates”.

TEMPLATE.XML has many parts and is the most important file. It can be created or modified from an existing template. The format is very important! Also all syntax must be used! Be careful not to remove any “<” or “>” or “/”. Just change the numerical values between the double quotes. If you want to remove or add a button section, keep a blank line between them. I am using the “Classic Black” xml as an example. The first line MUST be

<?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”utf-8″?>

to work with the program.
The second line is

<menu id=”menu” background_image=”background.jpg” background_audio=”background.mp3″ title_text=”My DVD” title_font=”Arial” title_font_size=”48″ title_color=”$FFFFFF” title_x=”70″ title_y=”40″ duration=”30″>

“menu id= menu” is recognized by the program and should NOT be changed. The second part would be, in my example named, name= “MINE”. Also if you copied your picture into this directory you would have to change it to the background_image=name or rename your picture to background.jpg and the same with the audio. The rest can be changed in the DVD Menu section by double clicking on Font but the line must have a default value! The title “My DVD” can be changed in the DVD Menu along with all the fonts and sizes. The title_x= and title_y= value is where you want the “My DVD” to appear. X would be side to side placement and y would be top to bottom placement. Duration is how long the mp3 will play in seconds before restarting. All these parameters still must have a default starting value!

The next line is very very important! It is

<buttons id=”buttons” text_align=”center” text_color=”$FFFFFF” font=”Arial” font_size=”14″ >

Buttons are defined below, which will be described in a moment, the text _align=”center” will center any text from the DVD Menu Button text below your inserted video. You can also use left or right if you prefer. Text_color, font, and font_size can also be changed here from the program but default values must be supplied.

After a blank line the “button” will be how many different files you will add to your menu before going to the “next screen”. After each “button” a blank line should be added. For example if you look at the Album template, you will see four “button” areas. If you look at Classic Black, you will see six button areas.

Each of the “button”s will have four lines with four parameters:
x0= the side to side start position of the file you add
y0= the top to bottom start position of the file you add
w0= the width of the file added
h0= the height of the file added
x1= the side to side start position of the frame surrounding your file that was added
y1= the top to bottom start position of the frame surrounding your file that was added
w1= the width of the frame
h1= the hieight of the frame
x2= the side to side start position of the highlight frame to select the file to play
y2= the top to bottom start position of the highlight frame to select the file to play
w2= the width of the highlight frame
h2= the height of the highlight frame
x3= the button text side to side start position, if any, added from the program
y3= the button text top to bottom start position, if any, added from the program
w3= the width of the button text
h3= the height of the button text

The remaing two “button”s are the previous and next buttons respectively that appear if you add more files than the number of buttons from above, Album would have four and if you add another file, you will see the next icon appear and if you click on it, it will change to another blank area where you can add more files and you will see prev.

Once again, the first one is “previous”, the following one is “next”
x0= the side to side position where you want the prev.png or next.png to appear
y0= the top to bottom position where you want the prev.png or next.png to appear
w0= the width of the .png
h0= the height of the .png
x2= the side to side position of the select highlight
y2= the top to bottom position of the select highlight
w2= the width position of the select highlight
h2= the height position of the select highlight

The last line of your xml must be

</menu>

Start your program and see if menu name appears. You should not have any problem.
At this point you can go to your Temp directory and cut and paste all templates back into your Templates directory and after you restart the program, you will have all templates available for use.

This document is to create your own template with Sothink Movie DVD Maker. Creating your own templates, besides the ones that are already given, is a relatively easy thing to do. I use to use version 3.5 and it accepted new entries without problems with Windows XP. In my example I am using Windows 7. This can be done with any other version of Windows, but the paths to the directories may change.

In C:\Program Files(x86)\SourceTec\Sothink Movie DVD Maker\Templates(the directory where the program is placed) right click NEW and FOLDER and name it MINE. There MUST be 9 (nine) files created for the process to work. You may cut and paste from existing templates you pasted to Temp if needed. Size of files is important, names are not so important!

Nine files are needed will be shown at Tab.1:

Tab.1 Files needed to be prepared

The first file is by default is named background.jpg. It can be any jpeg picture you have, but the smaller the better. It will automatically stretch to fit the background menu. The bigger the jpeg, the less space for video quality! You can change the name in the DVD Menu section by changing BG image path to whatever you have your selected picture named, (flower.jpg). It still must be copied into this directory.

The second file is background.mp3. You also may want an mp3 to play during video selection. Once again size is important, but this file is not really necessary. This file is about 15-180 seconds in length at 128 kbps/44 kHz. The path can be also changed in DVD Menu BG audio.

The third, fourth, fifth, and sixth files are also not that important unless you are planning to have multiple menu screens for your videos. They are next.png, next.wmf, prev.png, and prev.wmf. These files are basically just pictures to click on to go to the next screen or backtrack to the previous screen.

These can be created with Microsoft Paint or copied from other templates if you like the pictures. You may need a WMF editor.

The next two files are video.png and video.wmf. They are used to frame your file that you ADD and as a menu selector. They also can be created with Microsoft Paint or your favorite WMF editor. The size of these files will be discussed in the TEMPLATE.XML which is the most important part of your template creation which I reserved for last as it will be the most detailed.

Most exciting part about the edition of xml file will be explained in “Concise Guide of Movie Menu DIY (2)”.

Launch Sothink Movie DVD Maker, add video files and do some conversion settings. Then go to tab “DVD Menu” and create DVD menu.

• Step1. Select DVD Menu Template

In DVD Menu panel, click item “Template” and it appears an arrow for clicking. Select a DVD menu template from the drop down list. Here I choose template “Pallens”.

You can also set your own picture as the background image and add background music.

• Step2. Add Title & Button Text

Under item “Title” click “Font” and it appears a button leading to open a dialog for setting the title font, size, color, etc. Here I set font as “Tahoma”, size as 36. Then click “Title text” to input title text. Here I input “The Big Bang Theory” to replace the default text “My DVD”.

“Button” is for identifying every DVD movie. Select a video in the file list and set the button text and font for it.

It also could set how the DVD disc plays when ending. Here I click “After playing current video” and choose “Play next video” from the drop up list. As for “After playing last video”, I choose “Back to first menu”, which means going back to the first page of the DVD menu.

• Step3. Create DVD Menu

When menu is customized, videos and DVD disc are ready, it’s time to create DVD menu, which will be done during DVD burning.

On the user-interface, click button “Burn” in Toolbar and start video to DVD conversion. After that, Sothink Movie DVD Maker will create DVD menu:

When DVD menu is created and DVD burning is completed, you may immediately play your DVD disc and the first view will be the DVD menu you designed.
