1. What is Blu-ray Disc?
Blu-ray Disc (also known as Blu-ray or BD) is an optical disc storage medium designed by Sony to supersede the standard DVD format. Its main uses are high-definition video and data storage with 50GB per disc. The disc has the same physical dimensions as standard DVDs and CDs.
The name Blu-ray Disc is derived from the blue laser (violet-colored) used to read and write to this type of disc. In part because of the shorter wavelength (405 nanometers), substantially more data (almost 6 times more) can be stored on a Blu-ray Disc than on a standard DVD, which uses a red (650 nm) laser.
During the format war over high-definition optical discs, Blu-ray Disc competed with the HD DVD format. In February 2008, Toshiba—the main company supporting HD DVD— ceded and effectively ended the format war.
Blu-ray Disc is developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association, a group representing makers of consumer electronics, computer hardware, and motion pictures. As of January 2009, more than 890 Blu-ray disc titles are available in Australia, 720 in Japan, 1,140 in the United Kingdom, and 1,500 in the United States. ( From Wikipedia)
2. What format of the Blu-ray movie is? Does it require a special player to play the Blu-ray movie?
Blu-ray movie has many formats, like msts, m2ts, mkv, etc. The Blu-ray format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video, as well as storing large amounts of data. This extra capacity combined with the use of advanced video and audio codecs will offer consumers an unprecedented high definition experience. It requires a special player to play the Blu-ray movie, like Sony PS3.
3. What input formats does Sothink HD Movie Maker support? What about output?
Sothink HD Movie Maker supports:
Video formats: *.wmv, *.mkv, *.avi, *.divx, *.xvid, *.mpeg, *.mp4 (including iPod/iPhone/PSP format), *3gp, *.mov, *.qt, *.rm, *.rmvb, H.264/AVC, *.m2ts, *.mts, *.m2t, *.flv (Flash video format).
Supported Discs:
Blu-ray Discs (BD): BD-R, BD-RE, BD-25, BD-50, etc.
DVD (AVCHD): DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, etc.
4. Can Sothink HD Movie Maker burn videos to MPEG-HD or WMV-HD?
Sorry, Sothink HD Movie Maker only supports outputting AVCHD content and Blu-ray Discs. It doesn't support converting video to MPEG-HD or WMV-HD.
5. How can I watch the burnt Discs?
All discs burnt by Sothink HD Movie Maker can be played on various Blu-ray players and Sony PlayStation 3, but not on the regular DVD player (such as
Sony RDR HX-980).
6. Can I just burn a part of video content into Discs? If so, how?
Surely, you can burn one or several segments of videos into Discs. Just select the video you have added into the program, go to "Edit" - > "Trim" function,
then you can decide which part can be burnt by dragging the left/right slider to set start/end time.
7. If I want to save the generated videos and burn them later, what should I do?
If you would not like to burn movies once the video files conversion is completed, please un-tick the checkbox "Check disc status before starting encoding" under dialog Options. Meanwhile, please make sure there is no disc in the CD-ROM.
8. Why it prompts no disc when starting burning? What should I do?
If you select "Check disc status before starting encoding" under dialog Options and there is no disc in the drive, it pops up a dialog to prompt before converting and ask you to select an action among "Abort", "Retry" and "Ignore". You may select "Ignore" and it will continue converting and save the generated video for your next time burning to disc when disc is ready.
